I am always honored when someone chooses me to photograph their children. This family recently moved out of the San Diego area and were here visiting. I was instantly in love with these girls, they are unique and have the most amazing little personalities. Little Margarita had me laughing the entire time. She was so silly and mischievous. While her older sister was a bit more on the serious side at times. You could just feel their bond for each other… it was special. I learned that they are adopted from Guatemala. Mom told me a bit about them during the shoot and how lucky they were to have them both. They were adopted separately but are birth sisters. She calls them her “miracles.” I wanted to know more because I love a story with a happy ending and this is what she wrote to me.
Luci is our first child and came home to us at 10 months old.
She had only been home for 5 months, when we found out that she had a birth
sister, Margaret. We were so excited to adopt another baby and reunite
these sisters. We were under a time constraint to get our adoption
paperwork complete within the month, as guatemala was shutting down their
adoptions starting in January 2009. We had just moved to San Diego from
Indianapolis, and had to find an agency, complete a new home study and pull
together a dossier – in two weeks! Miraculously, we submitted our
paperwork to Guatemala just prior to the Christmas Holiday.
After much anxiety on our part about whether or not the adoption would go through with the changes in
Guatemala, we went to pick her up and bring her home in August 2009. Luci
wasn’t so excited at first to share her toys, but now they love playing
together and doing sister stuff. Luci is a princess and is very delicate
and girly. Margaret is also sweetly sensitive, but has the energy of an
entire football team and loves to run and jump and play. We are so blessed
to have them as daughters and thank God every day that we get to be their
parents.
